MARCH 2010 by Henry Wright
As we try to understand there is more to faith than just receiving, we need to look at the Doctrines of Christ as outlined by Paul in Heb. 6:1-2. Faith toward God is not the first Doctrine of Christ. Note that Paul is not calling these the Doctrines of God, but the Doctrines of Christ. Why? Because this represents a believer's journey and positional conclusion when you make Jesus Lord of your life, rather than just a risen Savior. I would suggest anyone get my DVD/CD with the title "Why is Laying on of Hands not Working Like it Should?" In fact laying of hands is the fourth doctrine, but we try and make it #1. Jesus lost His following when He asked His followers to "drink of my blood and eat of my body." The message of sanctification and making Jesus "really" LORD is as unpopular now as it was then. In the instructions for communion in 1 Cor. 11...Paul says that before partaking of the cup and the bread, "let a man examine himself." This means we are to take spiritual inventory of those areas where Jesus is not LORD. Paul also said we are to, "Pick up our cross daily." The cross is a symbol of the curse. In these scriptures, Paul seems to be suggesting that we recognize the "DEAD WORKS" in our life and "crucify" them. In other words, recognize what the curse is in your life (the curse is the sin...1 John 5 states that all unrighteousness is sin) recognize it and kill it, destroy it, get it out of your life so that nothing can hinder the fruit of the resurrected Jesus in your life. Even the Prophets said, "Your sins have separated you from your God" Is 59:2...In the 1 Cor 11 communion scriptures, Paul said because you would not examine yourself (for unrighteousness) repent and deal with these dead works, for this reason many of you are sick, weak and die premature death. To teach faith without teaching sanctification is like putting new paint on a rusty car. Until you remove the rust, the "Jesus" or "Faith" paint will never stick. The rust (sin) will always eat through the surface. To say we must just "believe" or "have faith," or you have "just believed a lie" and not recognize the specific lies and deal with them, is a very subtle form of blindness and denial - it is a cover up. Today's commercial church certainly is an expert on teaching the Grace - Mistake message in which Grace now covers sin without repentance. To say there is not such a thing as a "sinning saint" is to have your head in the sand and to misunderstand much of what Paul wrote to the church. The church is rampant with sin and disease. That includes the Hyper Faith Message churches. Referring to Heb 6:1-2 again, to try to have faith work and not repent for the dead works of sin in our life will overthrow faith. Those churches that teach the Hyper Faith Message still do not know what to do with their tormented, diseased, sinning saints when faith does not work. Be in Health teaches a faith message that is very strong. Without faith, the thousands who have been saved, healed and delivered would not have been restored. But our message includes a missing link, you must "drink of His blood" and "eat of His body," ... You must appropriate what He has offered to you by repenting for sin as a believer. Only then will His broken body...broken for the curse... work to free you from the wages of sin. You must choose to crucify or put to death, the works of the flesh as partially outlined in Galatians 5. To ignore sin as "just a lie" and not recognize it, destroy it and get it out of your life, is like putting paint on a rust bucket.
